Art on the Move

It was hard to miss this car parked near the Phoenix Convention Center on a rainy February day. Here it is turned into a post card with multiple textures added.

Cherry Blossoms

A spray of cherry blossoms with several different textured layers applied.

Oldest House in Amsterdam

Amsterdam's oldest house, or Het Houten Huis, may be the oldest wooden house in the Netherlands. It is located in the Begijnhof at number 34. It was originally a tradesman's home.

Cherub and Books

I inherited this little cherub when I moved into my current home. He sits atop a few worn and cherished books of verse that my mother purchased for me, secondhand, when I was a child.

A Blessing

This image began with a photo of a variety of Saint Francis and other other garden statues taken at Whitfil Nursery. I added backgrounds Medieval music and old parchment paper.

London Museum

This is the entrance of the marvelous Museum of Natural History in South Kensington, London. This ornate terracotta facade, built in 1881, was typical of high Victorian architecture. The interior of the museum has atmosphere to spare. Standing on the stairs of the main hall gives the illusion of being caught in one of those impossible M.C. Escher images. I've added several textures for a grunge effect.

Kew Collage

This image began with an original photo of the King Williams Temple at Kew Gardens, just outside London. A number of different textures and design elements were added for an antiqued look.

Memoire

Here I'm mixing a photo of an English castle estate with French ephemera to evoke the past.

White Rose Framed

I began this piece with a vintage rose and placed it on a piece of scanned paper that a friend made for me years ago. I love the aqua color and have never been able to part with this particular piece. Then I centered these over gold background textures, as well as a French writing texture and two vintage key illustrations.

Rooster Geography

This is yet another photo taken at Whitfil Nursery. Rather than blur the background to eliminate other shoppers, I replaced the background with a gold texture and a texture of an old French geography book.

March 20, 2013

Hydrangeas

This image is based on another photo taken at Whitfil nursery. I've added several textures for a muted effect.

March 18, 2013

Ceramic Planters

This is a result of playing around with a new technique using a mask texture from Shadowhouse Creations as well as other textures. The original photo was taken outdoors at Whitfil Nursery.

Amour

The results of my experimentation with different items of ephemera combined with textures to get an antiqued look.

Vintage Peacock

I was amazed to find a cage full of peacocks at Whitfil Nursery last week. Getting a clear photo of them through the wires of the cage was nearly impossible, but I was able to salvage one photo by combining it with multiple layers and masks.

Old Cash Register

This photo was also taken at the Whitfil Nursery in Phoenix. There is an outdoor patio with a whole range of old and vintage items and this was among them.

March 14, 2013

Three Little Buddhas

I spotted these three little Buddhas among the garden statuary at Whitfil Nursery. This was the first time I'd seen this particular take on the old "speak no evil, hear no evil and see no evil" admonition. I used a grunge texture to darken up the surroundings.

Flight of Fancy

Another collage created from photos, various textures and a background from K & Company.

March 12, 2013

The Lady and the Dragon

Although it takes me much longer, I've enjoyed creating composited images lately and I wanted to try another one based on a Medieval theme.

March 11, 2013

The Aerialist

This is another collage composed of photographs and other digital elements and ephemera. It was inspired by a vintage tray I saw at the nursery.

March 10, 2013

Frames and Flowers

Based on a photo I took this past week at a local nursery. I swapped out the photos in the frames for pictures of birds and added a butterfly and background textures.

March 9, 2013

Parakeet Collage

I've been experimenting with digital collage lately. I made this one, featuring two parakeets, for my parents whose birds, Buddy and Bucky, look very much like the ones in this image.

March 8, 2013

Party Girl

I made another trip to the Whitfil Nursery today and photographed this classical statue draped in beads standing in front of a trellis. It was a beautiful day, sunny and warm, and I was smiling just like the lady  in the photo.

The Surgeon's House

This lovely house is actually a B&B which sits high above the Old West copper mining town of Jerome, Arizona and has fabulous views overlooking the town and valley below.

March 5, 2013

Old Coffee Can

Another photo that I took in the same antiques shop while visiting the street fair.

March 4, 2013

Garden Steps

AHB... I started seeing these initials describing a lot of the digital art that I was drawn to. AHB apparently stands for "Art History Brush," one of the tools in PhotoShop that can cause a photograph to look like a painting. This is my first AHB experiment using one of my photos from Filoli Gardens near Woodside, California.

March 3, 2013

Pink Dress

Today we went to a street fair in the Melrose district of Phoenix. This photo was taken in one of the antique stores that line 7th Avenue. I added a couple of textures to emphasize the dress.

Pretzels atop the Reichstag

The concession stand on the Reichstag in Berlin with a watercolor effect added.
