Faded Beauty

The weathered facade of a building near our hotel in Venice. At first glance it would seem to be an abandoned building, except for the flowers in pots on the old balcony.

Leaving Venice

Cruising through the Grand Canal past the San Giorgio Maggiore church and belltower on our way out of Venice.

Ghost Boat

A boat passes nearly unnoticed through the darkened canals of Venice in the quiet of evening.

Equestrian Statue

In the Campo dei Santi Giovanni e Paulo in Venice, there is an equestrian statue of Bartolomeo Colleoni, who was a condotierro, or Captain-General of the Venetian Republic in the 1400s.

Rialto Market, Venice

The produce market near the Rialto Bridge on a rainy day with added HDR effects.

Forgotten Window

This typical pointed Venetian window is part of the Palazzo Contarini del Bovolo, or 'snail tower' located near the Rialto and dating from the 15th century.

Clock Tower, Venice

A portion of the Torre del'Orologio on Piazza San Marco in Venice. I've added textures for a distressed look and to add interest to an otherwise blank sky.

When Doges Were in Style

These shop manikins are cleverly carved doges. The doge was the chief magistrate and highest elected official of Venice. The last one abdicated in 1797.

Neglected

This stairway, off a small campo in Venice, was actually chained off to passersby. Like many parts of this beautiful city, the stone stairs and attached building appear abandoned and forgotten.

Grand Canal, Venice

Venice might possibly be the most photogenic city I've visited. This is another view of the Grand Canal photographed from atop the Academia Bridge.

Allegro

This is another image from my Masquerade series, which combines my original photos of Venice with scrapbook elements and centuries old portraits.

Campanile, Venice

This view of the well-known bell tower was taken from the Giardini Ex Reali (Royal Gardens) adjacent to Piazza San Marco. A musical texture from Shadowhouse Creations was added.

Protector

This statue near the Grand Canal is said to depict the winged lion protecting the Virtues of the City of Venice. The winged lion, which represents San Marco, the patron saint of Venice, is everywhere you look, not just in Venice itself, but in other towns like Verona, which were once ruled by Venice.

I've added textures by ruby blossom and les brumes.

Window in the Cannaregio

I photographed this window, a study in terracotta and green, on a quiet street in the Canareggio area of Venice.  I especially liked the contrast of the lacy white curtains with the weathered and peeling shutters.

I've added textures by cleanzor and brenda starr.

Accademia Bridge

This image shows the Accademia bridge spanning the Grand Canal in Venice. We had just visited the Accademia museum nearby.

Textures from Shadowhouse Creations, pareerica and joes sistah were added.
