Built between 1557 and 1562, the fort defended the high ground of the Nice coastline. It can be glimpsed from Castle Hill above the old town and harbor of Nice.

Fort Saint-Andre

Rising above the town of Villeneuve-les-Avignon, the well preserved fort of Saint-Andre was built in 1292 and offers beautiful views across the Rhone to Avignon, but with far fewer tourists than the papal city.
