Maui Sunrise

Early morning on Ka'anapali Beach. I just posted 50 new photos on the Wanderlust blog, so I'm not looking forward to getting back to working with more textures again.

The Jungle Beyond

This photo was taken on the grounds of the Grand Wailea resort on Maui. There are several replicas of thatched huts, some with seating, surrounded by jungle-like vegetation which must keep a veritable army of gardeners busy full-time.

Zigzag

I was intrigued by the zigzag that someone had drawn in the sand. OK, I promise not to post any more beach sunset photos for awhile. I've been working on my new blog and I promise to have something completely different for my next post. LOL

Hawaiian Dancer

This young woman was one of the performers at the Feast at Lele in Lahaina on Maui. If you only go to one luau on Maui, this is the one I recommend. It takes place at the shoreline around sunset and the food and entertainment are top notch. Because we reserved far in advance, we were thrilled to find that our table was front row, center stage, which definitely enhanced our enjoyment of the evening.

Hanging Out

Yes, I took LOTS of sunset photos on this trip and I was always amazed at the subtle differences even a few minutes made. This is another sunset over Ka'anapali Beach.

Red Hibiscus

I took this photo just before dusk at the Sheraton Black Rock on Ka'anapali Beach. A texture by Shadowhouse Creations was added.

Ka'anapali Sunset

Just back from Paradise where photographing the sunset was always a popular pastime. Here is last Monday's sunset at Ka'anapali Beach. I've added a slight HDR effect.

Maui in Layers

My original photo was taken on the beach at Wailea on the island of Maui. I added a bold graphic texture from Yuna.

Hibiscus

This image started with a photo of a hibiscus flower on the grounds of the Kea Lani in Maui. After trying various PhotoShop adjustments, I ended up isolating the flower against a background of textures by joes sistah and Shadowhouse Creations.

Hawaiian Sea Turtle

In the Hawaiian language, Honu is the name given to the green sea turtle that is commonly seen in the islands. They can grow up to five feet long and live to be 80 years old.

I took this photo at the Maui Ocean Center in Ma'alaea but the quality was blurry and left a lot to be desired. I added textures by pareeerica, borealnz and rinoshea and increased contrast with burn and dodge tools for the resulting image.

Maui Hilltop

Last fall when travel partner and I were visiting Maui, we decided to check out every beach on the South shore. At one such stop, I noticed some very steep stairs leading to the top of a hill opposite the beach.

Something New

I miss Maui. Arizona is supposed to be warm in the winter, but right now we're having a cold spell and it's anything but warm. I'm tired of piling on layers of clothing to keep from shivering. Yes, I'm a wimp. But the best antidote for this cold weather has been looking through photos from my Maui trip this past fall. This one was taken at dawn's early light on the beach in front of the Kea Lani at Wailea. I've added a texture from Shadowhouse Creations.
