Bike on the Singel

I believe this is the Singel canal, but I'm not 100% certain. Travel Partner and I stayed in a wonderful hotel on the Singel - the Estherea - a couple of times, and I love the location because it's convenient to nearly everything in Amsterdam.

After applying an HDR effect, I added textures from bocaccino and Shadowhouse Creations.

Weathered Boat Near Burano

This rusty utility boat was tied up to a dock on Burano. I liked the warm, muted tones which contrasted with the water. I've added a texture from Shadowhouse Creations.

San Marco Gondolas

I took this photo of gondolas in front of  the Piazza San Marco with San Giorgio Maggiore in the background.

24-Hour Clock

This 24-hour astronomical clock on the west gate tower of Diocletian's Palace in Split, Croatia, dates from the Renaissance. This image resulted after adjustment levels were added to the original photo.

Burano Courtyard

I photographed this scene on the colorful island of Burano, Italy, an easy half day excursion by boat from Venice. Burano is known for its lace and brightly painted houses.

Nymphenburg Palace

The lovely Baroque palace of Nymphenburg, located in Munich, served as the main summer residence of the Bavarian kings. This is the front view. I've added a texture from Shadowhouse Creations.

Chitalpa Blooms

Our beautiful chitalpa tree in full bloom before it mysteriously died earlier this summer. Maybe the heat was too much for it. I added a texture from Shadowhouse Creations.

A Quiet Corner

Now that it's broiling here in the desert, I'm having fond thoughts of places where the weather is much more moderate - like Northern California. The beautiful gardens of Filoli are located in Woodside, California and green, lush scenes like this one are common there. I've added a texture from cathair studios.

Sea View Door

A freestanding door with a view from the heights of Oia on Santorini is accentuated with the addition of an elaborate frame texture by rubyblossom.

Rusty Buoy





We sailed past this rusty buoy in the shipping channel as we were leaving Venice. I've added a texture from nasos b.

Wishing Well

Behind Mary Arden's house in Stratford-upon-Avon there is a peaceful and lovely garden with roses and a wishing well. A texture from Shadowhouse Creations was added for depth.

San Marco with Flags

The beautiful St. Mark's Basilica in Venice is a true wonder with its intricate facade and roof line, not to mention the amazing mosaics inside.

Here I've added a texture from distressed jewel.

Split Harbor

This image shows the lovely harbor of Split, Croatia with a texture from Shadowhouse Creations added.

Morris Dancers in the Cotswolds

Morris dance is a type of English folk dance that is thought to date to the 15th century. The name is a corruption of moorish dance. Dancers wear colorful costumes, bells, and occasionally handkerchiefs, such as these men.

Wilmcote Sheep

This is a composite image of two different photos taken in Wilmcote, near Stratford-upon-Avon, where I was visiting Mary Arden's house. Mary is famous for being the mother of Shakespeare and this is the area where he grew up.

I've overlaid everything with a texture by rubyblossom.

Window in Venice

Bright yellow flowers spill from a window in the Cannaregio district of Venice. Several textures from Shadowhouse Creations were combined to recreate the worn stucco surface of the wall.

Pioneer Sunset

This image is a composite of two photos - a sunset photo taken in our back yard, and the other a black and white photo I took at the Pioneer Living History Museum north of Phoenix. I added a texture called Treasure Map from Shadowhouse Creations.

Back in Time

A clock display in a local imports store was the basis for my original photo. I gave it a grunge feel by adding textures from pareeerica and Shadowhouse Creations.

Bougainvillea

These bougainvillea were photographed on a light table. Then I added various textures by Ellenvd, max f. williams, les brumes and Shadowhouse Creations.

Hibiscus

This image started with a photo of a hibiscus flower on the grounds of the Kea Lani in Maui. After trying various PhotoShop adjustments, I ended up isolating the flower against a background of textures by joes sistah and Shadowhouse Creations.

Door Knocker

I saw this interesting door knocker in Santorini on a brightly painted blue door. Wanting to experiment and give it a different look, I added textures by bocaccino and Shadowhouse Creations.

Tree in Balboa Park

I found this old, majestic tree in Balboa Park. After using adjustment layers to bring out the various shades of the bark, I added textures by les brumes and tanya felsheim from the free texture group on Flickr.

View from Oia

This is the lofty view from the village of Oia, high above the blue waters of the Aegean and the deep caldera of Santorini. To the left are the remains of old fortifications, now a favorite viewpoint, especially at sunset.
